Back up discs

Hi, can anyone help please.

We have compressed the database and still, very soon we will run out of space on an ordinary 1.44mb floppy.

What is anyone else doing about this? The programme doesn't allow for back up to a data stick or cd.

Help!!

Thanks

Dear Angie,
The database (INR.MDcool smiley is stored with the other program files in the 'C:\Program files\Rat Version 3' folder.

Find the INR.MDB file in this folder. You can copy it from there onto a memory stick of a hidden folder on your network.

Thanks Colm

Admin are asking, do we delete the folder (INR.MDcool smiley once it's copied?

The back up prompt in the RAT programme has not zeroed the memory store; the file says 'S:RAT\inr\mdb is 1,103,872 bytes in size' after the inr.mdb folder has been copied.
We must be missing something here.
Sorry, probably just a bit thick.

Regards
Angie

Dear Angie,
INR.MDB is not a folder, it is a file.
Do not delete any folder or file.
When doing the backup within RAT, it always displays the filesize.

If you already have the INR.MDB file on a network folder on the server, you do not really need to do a back up , because the server would do a backup of its hard disk each night, though you would need to check this with your clinical supplier.
I see you have written (S:\) This is a network drive (used in INPS, in-practice systems)

Thanks again Colm

I've spoken to our Admin Officer, she says the problem was that the server failed at one point and all hell broke loose; as you can imagine. So, we'd rather not rely on the main memory if at all possible.

Thanks Colm

We are concerned because there has been a problem with the server in the past, and I am informed this almost led to a catastrophic loss of information. I think this is why we are now backing up onto disk.

If there is no other way I will have to get in touch with the supplier as you suggest as no-one else seems to know what to do next. The practice still requires a back up to some kind of storage device.

Dear Angie,
It is easy to manually backup RAT. It is just a matter of finding your INR.MDB file wherever it is on the network and coping it to a datakey or to a CD. You do not need to double-click it, only copy it to the backup folder on the datakey / CD / or even a backup folder on the server.

You need to remember to do this on a regular basis.
