INR range

Hello We have a patient that has a reference range between 3.5 and 3.8. The closest we can get in RAT is 3-4. This patient has two problems, AF and implant. We have added as a note/comment the specific range. Because this is the only range we can get that is closest the RAT program will try to change his dosage when it is clinically not necessary. I know we can edit a result but is there a way of being more specific with the ref ranges?

Hi Marion,
Sorry, but RAT does not have customisable reference ranges.
The reference ranges are based on the recommended guidance.
Your only option to to manually override the dose regimen if outside your modified range of 3.5.3.8

Sometimes specialists will mention target INRs, i.e. a patients target INR should be 3.5. To allow this to work in practice, a range 0.5 either side of this target, i.e. 3.0-4.0, is the reference range used.

Stupid question , but is 3.5-3.8 the target INR or the actual range? The reason I ask is because this is a very tight INR range to work with in practice. What evidence is there that this is better than 3-4?

Regards
Colm Rafferty

Thank you for your help with this. It seems to be his target. After speaking to GPs we agree with you that it is a very tight range to work with. We will continue to override the dose regime if necessary.
